Best wading boot for all around fishing!

Posted by TAG on May 1st 2017

I've always used Korkers with my job and fishing. Out on the water these boots are as comfortable as it gets, and are very durability against sharp, and uneven rocks! The have great ankle support and the soles are easy to change. I feel very surefooted and stable. I recommend these boots and any other Korkers boots for whatever fits your need.

    Comfort and Stability

Posted by David Cilley on Apr 29th 2017

I have been fly fishing for over 40 years, and these are the best boots that I have ever owned. I have worn out my back and both knees, so both of these attributes really matter. Putting on boots to this point has consisted of bending and using shoe horns, ending in more work than I need to be doing. The new BOA lacing system is what I have been looking for. The boot opens so fully and so effortlessly, that I just slide them on. After a hard day of fishing, you simply pull the button and slide the boots off. I have been a Korkers fan since the early days of their lace on studded soles and they have gotten better every year. If you can't find a sole you like, you are just too darn picky. My wife saw how much I loved them and ordered a pair for herself. I mentioned stability earlier because of my physical limitations, the ankle support is EXCEPTIONAL. I spent a few minutes trying to bend my ankle over and the boots refused to let me. This has made me more stable and reduced my risks of falling exponentially. If you are looking for a new pair of wading boots, look no further. Light weight, stable, easy to put on and take off, these are for you.

    Excellent wading boots

Posted by Peder on Apr 18th 2017

After more than 30 years of wet wading in hiking boots, I decided to take the plunge and get some "real" wading boots. Hiking boots function as wading boots, but that's about as far as they go. I had initially begun considering wading boots last year and saw that Korkers were releasing the Darkhorse at IFTD/ICAST 2016.

While the boots seemed great, I wanted to give them some time and let others put them through the paces and see how they held up. Most years, I average 40-50 days on the water and fish almost exclusively on small to medium freestone mountain streams in New England.

Overall, the reviews over the past 6-8 months have been excellent and when I got a coupon for AvidMax, I got them. Initially, I was going to purchase them at a local fly shop but no one in a 50 mile radius had them in stock.

I normally wear a size 14 shoe and according to Korkers, that means I should buy a size 15. Not this time around. I previously tried on a pair of size 15 Greenbacks and knew they were too large; so I opted for size 14. Even with 3mm neoprene booties, they are plenty roomy. So far they do not seem too large. Despite being "large" they are surprisingly light weight. After fishing three 6 hour days in a row, my feet and legs were no more tired than wearing any other boot.

If you regularly fish freestone streams or other areas with lots of rocks, you will appreciate the molded toe caps. They really are an extra layer of protection against stubbing your toes.

The internal drainage system works quite well for emptying out the water as you walk along the stream bank. Within a few minutes the boots are empty and you feel like your feet have lost about 10 pounds! After fishing from the bank for about 15 or 20 minutes, I noticed the boots had already started to dry. I'm sure that come the height of summer and they'll be dry in no time at all!

Initially, I was skeptical if the extra money for the Boa laces would be worth it. I'm certainly glad I took the risk. The Boa 2 lace system is as smooth as butter! They are wicked easy to use and to adjust the fit exactly how you want them. Not to mention the fact that you can repair them if you get too zealous in tightening.

I'm curious to see how well they last. If this is of any note, the owner of a nearby fly shop is also a guide. He put in over 100 days (at 10 hours a day) in the Darkhorse last year alone and said they still look nearly like new.

A few final points to note. If you have narrow feet, these boots may feel a bit too wide and "sloppy". Additionally, if you have low foot volume, I would highly encourage you to wear thick, heavy socks in your waders so these don't feel too floppy. I have wide feet, but low foot volume (though not flat feet) and I needed to wear heavy socks and really crank down on the Boa system (Which I think gets and stays tighter than traditional laces.) in order for them to not feel sloppy while I walk.

My one and only minor (very minor) complaint, you ask? The D-ring at the toe cap for hooking your gravel guards isn't very sturdy. One has already started to have a few threads pull loose and both of them slip around.

Overall, the boots are very comfortable to fish in all day and they seem very durable where it counts. I'm glad I got them.
