    This is a decent reel.

Posted by Ryan Norris on Nov 5th 2019

I rated this 3 stars because it's exactly what you would expect a $50 plastic reel would be. It's decent. It's not great, but not bad. It does the job. I have a 4/5/6 reel. I haven't really used the drag because most of the fish I've caught with aren't going to run over 130 yards anyway. Probably the worst thing about this reel is that it comes with Rio Mainstream. (At least upgrade to Rio Avid Trout.) While I believe you get what you pay for, IMO, when you are fishing lighter weights drag does not come that much into play hence the reel is not the most important part of the setup. The great thing about this reel is that it can take some abuse and if it breaks, who cares, spend another $50 and get another. It's not the worst thing you'll spend $50 on. If you want to be cool and say it's a good beginner's reel that's fine, but I've been fly fishing for years and don't mind being seen with this reel on the water. You can catch fish with this reel.
