    Best midweight filter around

Posted by Ben Purcell on Jun 6th 2018

This little guy is now my favorite filter for day hikes, peak bagging, and backpacking with multiple people. It's smaller and lighter than a traditional full-sized pump filter, and easier and more convenient to use than a straw-filter like the Sawyer. The siphon tube is long enough to get into water sources without having to dunk your hand or use a collection pouch, and short enough to avoid being cumbersome. It's designed to be used with one hand, so you don't need to worry about keeping a dispensing hose in the mouth of your bottle/bladder while you pump. It's just point and shoot.

The manual says you can get 1L/min, though it's usually faster for the first liter or two, then slower for any after. This will vary based on how your forearm endurance is, and how many liters you've put through the filter. I tend to use this frequently for hikes to fishing destinations, along mountain creeks to alpine lakes. Instead of carrying 3+ liters for the day, I'll carry one and then this filter, since it's lighter than a water bottle on its own. Even when I'm not hiking up a creek I'll throw it in my day pack, in case someone I'm hiking with doesn't bring enough water, or we need clean water for cleaning an injury or some such.

It hasn't let me down so far, so it'll be my first pick for the foreseeable future.
