Tippet Rings
RIO Tippet Rings - 10 pk
SKU 200-5-954-TippetRing-P

Tippet Rings are small, very strong and lightweight, and make rigging and tippet replacement fast and easy. A leader with a tippet ring turns over perfectly, and they are light enough to use when fishing dry flies. Just tie the tippet ring to a leader with a clinch knot, and then add the required tippet in the same way. Tapered leaders last longer with a tippet ring as the leader will not be shortened every time the angler replaces the tippet. Tippet rings also make it extremely easy to add droppers, and are an excellent choice for European Style Nymphing and for Indicator nymph fishing. 2 sizes – Trout, 25lb/2mm diameter and Steelhead, 45lb/3mm diameter. There are 10 Tippet Rings per pack.

    Make your leader last longer!

Posted by Michael M on Mar 1st 2018

I use these on all my leaders. Cut off the last 16” or so and tie on a ring. Then attach your tippet and you’re good to go. Once tippet gets too short just as some more to the ring. So glad I don’t have to keep buying leaders!

    Save time and effort

Drop shot fly fishing rigs are difficult and time consuming to make and then attaching to the leader or tippet is just as bad because making a surgeons knot requires the weight and loops to go through the knot. I pre make my rigs with 3x tippet and a 6x trailer where the split shot goes via a blood knot. Then two perfection loops for loop to loop connections on pre tied flies. When I add a tippet ring to the end of the 3x I can use a simple Davy knot to connect the drop shot rig to the end of the tapered leader or existing tippet. I also add tippet to leaders with tippet rings and re roll them for later use.

    MONEY SAVER!!!!!

Posted by Jack Smith on Dec 12th 2016

I first started using tippet rings about 2 years ago when I saw a video produced by Tightline Videos out of NJ. I thought "boy that would save some Leaders!" and it does. At first I bought one product by another manufacturer and had a mishap and lost 90% of them...long story! Then found another manufacturer that was cheaper (Key word there!) and tried them. Much to my chagrin, they were just that "Cheaper"! Whatever manufacturing process they used left the exterior and interior with a sharp edge which would start to cut through the leader and tippet! Fortunately, I never lost a fish, but did go through a Lot of tippet material and of course...FLYS!!! I make my own flys and am not very fast at it, so you can imagine that stuck in my craw!!! Finally threw the remainder away, and started buying the RIO Brand. Have been extremely satisfied with the quality and the price! have recommended them to all my fly fishing friends will continue to do so!

    Handy piece of gear

Nice little concept, but don't try doing it on the stream. Set up your lines at home before you go. Good for single and tandems. Saves line.

    Handy tool for tippet management

Posted by Randy "Tiny" Tullis on Sep 3rd 2016

Even though I make my own knotted leaders (blood knots), the tippet ring allows more versatility. Instead of leaving a long tag end on the last knot for a dropper fly, the ring allows easy multiple replacements of the dropper line and longer tippet line. For me improved clinch knots are easier and faster to tie than blood knots, and the ring makes that easy. Lastly, mono to flourocarbon blood knots have not been dependable for me and the ring allows improved clinch knots on both ends, regardless of material. FYI - Watch the little video to reduce the chance of losing the whole batch of rings on your first use.......I'm just sayin.....

    Saved Leader - Tippit Management

Posted by Cyrus on Apr 8th 2016

I was hesitant to incorporate tippet rings into my leader-tippet rig. My immediate concern was the impact on the line turning over, increased impact on the surface of the water on casting, and adding an additional knot into the mix that could possibly fail when I had the big one on.

Needless to say, all my concerns were without merit. The line turns over beautifully with little to no increase in line impact, and I have yet to have any part of the leader and tippet fail. In fact, it has makes it easier to identify when I should alternate between different tippet line weights and when to replace.

Overall, I feel that the this is an invaluable addition to my kit. This was a small purchase that made a big impact very quickly. If your on the fence... jump. You will thank me later.
