Overview
The Elk Hair Caddis is a legacy fly in the truest sense: it has not gone out of style in decades and there is no sign it is going to. The flared elk wing gives a caddis silhouette from below and a highly visible one from above, over a palmered hackle body that rides high on the water and keeps riding high after the fly has been drowned, dried and cast again. It is the pattern you can fish all day without thinking about it.Its real value is range. There is enough buoyancy in the elk hair to hang a bead head nymph off the bend and pick apart pocket water on a small creek, and enough imitative accuracy in the profile to fish it alone on flat water where a cruder attractor would be refused. That combination is rare. Ours are tied with high quality materials, correct proportions, and on a Tiemco hook, which matters on a pattern that lives or dies on how well the wing is stacked. The Tan dressing is the one to own first, matching the broadest range of natural caddis. Tied here in size 12.Read More +Features
