Overview
The Umpqua Fathead Beetle 2.0 in the Potter colorway is a meticulously crafted terrestrial dry fly pattern designed by renowned tyer Dennis Potter. This updated version of the original
Fathead Beetle features several enhancements aimed at improving performance and realism on the water.
The fly boasts a more pronounced
oval silhouette, providing a better profile from the
fish's perspective. Its new foam body not only floats better and longer but also ensures that the fly lands
"indicator-up" on every cast, regardless of size. A significant improvement in this version is the use of the
TMC 2487 Scud Hook, offering an
astounding hook gap—approximately three times that of a
standard or
heavy wire dry fly hook—enhancing hook-up rates.
Designed to imitate a variety of beetles and other terrestrial insects, the
Fathead Beetle 2.0 is particularly effective during the warmer months when such insects are prevalent. Its
realistic appearance and reliable performance make it a valuable addition to any angler's fly box.
