How to Tie the Mouse Fly

How to Tie the Mouse Fly fly tying video

In this week’s episode of Tying Tuesdays, watch as Max ties his Big Eyed Mouse! The Big Eyed Mouse is most similar to the master splinter, which is a great fly, but I consider the Big Eyed Mouse to be superior to all the rest. After multiple seasons guiding up in Alaska, this is my go-to mouse pattern. There was a lot of R & D that went into making this fly just right. I have beef with all the other mouse patterns out there because while they might cast and look great in the water, the actual number of fish hooked up is far less than the pattern I have created. The 3mm foam and the doubled-over head keeps this fly floating high and swimming right when it has been drowned a couple of times by a bad cast or a trout eat.
