Overview

The Redington Classic Trout Kit pairs a Classic Trout fly rod with Redington's matching Classic Trout click and pawl reel, giving a trout angler who is moving up a complete, matched outfit in one purchase. New for 2026, each kit includes dacron backing and a RIO Gold XP fly line with loop-to-loop connections, all carried in a Cordura case.

The rod is the moderate-action Classic Trout, with a dark clay brown blank, a matching rosewood reel seat insert, custom machined reel seat components and titanium oxide stripping guides. The reel is lightweight and fully machined, with a mid arbor and a loud click and pawl drag. Redington offers two kits and we carry both: a 7'6" 3 wt for technical spring creeks and a 9' 5 wt for larger tailwaters and freestones.

Which Classic Trout Kit Should You Choose?

Technical spring creeks, smaller streams and delicate presentations: 5-5048K-376-4 (7'6" 3 wt).

Larger tailwaters, freestone rivers and all-around trout fishing: 5-5048K-590-4 (9' 5 wt).

Classic Trout Kit vs Classic Trout Rod

The kit uses the same rods sold on their own as the Redington Classic Trout Fly Rod, which comes in nine sizes from a 7'6" 2 wt to a 9' 6 wt. The kit adds the matching Classic Trout reel, backing, RIO Gold XP line and a Cordura case. If you already own a reel and line, or want a size other than the 3 wt and 5 wt, the rod alone is the simpler buy. For another Redington outfit, see the Redington Original Kit.
