Hans Mylant came up with the Sunny Side Up at two in the morning, got out of bed, and went straight to the vice. The idea was simple enough to keep him awake: take a jig bomb and find a way to make it round. What he arrived at is a technique he calls posting the bead, securing the weight to the top of the hook shank much like a parachute post rather than threading it onto the eye.

That one change does the work. Posting the bead guarantees the fly rides hook point up every time without the bead crowding the hook gap, so you get the weight of a heavy anchor and keep the full bite of the hook. It was developed specifically as an anchor fly on a Euro rig, and it does that job as well as anything, but it is just as effective as the lead fly on a traditional indicator setup where it removes the need for split shot on the leader entirely.
