Overview

The Echo Indicator is built for one job: controlling your line through long, drag-free drifts under an indicator. Its 9'6" to 10' length and responsive action give you the reach to mend and hold line off the water, and Echo designed the rod to load deep into its powerful lower sections, so there is plenty of power and recovery to roll cast or overhead cast heavy nymph rigs to the target.

The blank has a semi gloss brown finish, with a full wells cork grip, a cork fighting butt and a black reel seat with fly graphics. Every Indicator is 4-piece and comes with a hard case and rod sock. We carry all three models Echo lists: a 9'6" 6 wt, a 10' 6 wt and a 10' 7 wt.

Which Indicator Should You Choose?

Indicator nymphing on trout rivers in a slightly shorter, handier rod: ECHOINDI696 (9'6" 6 wt).

The most reach and line control for long drifts: ECHOINDI6100 (10' 6 wt).

Heavier rigs, bigger water and larger fish: ECHOINDI7100 (10' 7 wt).

Echo Indicator Models

ECHOINDI696 - 9'6" 6 wt

The shortest Indicator keeps most of the reach of the 10' rods in a slightly handier package for trout rivers and wading.

Best for: indicator nymphing on trout rivers.

Line pairing: A 6 wt weight-forward floating line with a taper built to carry an indicator and mend easily. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth MPX (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF6F).

ECHOINDI6100 - 10' 6 wt

The extra six inches give the most reach in the 6 wt class, for holding line off seams and mending through long drifts.

Best for: long drag-free drifts, maximum line control.

Line pairing: A 6 wt weight-forward floating line with a taper built to carry an indicator and mend easily. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth MPX (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity (WF6F).

ECHOINDI7100 - 10' 7 wt

The 7 wt adds power for the heaviest nymph rigs, bigger water and larger fish.

Best for: heavy nymph rigs, bigger water, larger fish.

Line pairing: A 7 wt floating line made for indicator nymphing, with enough mass to turn over heavy rigs. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Anadro (WF7F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper (WF7F).

Indicator vs ION XL, Lago and Shadow II

The Echo ION XL also comes in 10' nymphing models from 5 to 8 wt; Echo plots it with more power and a slightly slower action than the Indicator, and it doubles as a fresh and saltwater series. The Echo Lago is a 10' lake rod that Echo says also works as a summer steelhead and large-trout nymphing rod. If you nymph with a tight line and no indicator, look at a Euro nymph rod such as the Echo Shadow II.

Echo Indicator FAQ

What is an indicator rod for?

Fishing nymphs under a strike indicator. The long rod lets you mend and hold line off the water for a drag-free drift, and its power lets you roll cast or overhead cast heavy rigs.

What action is the Indicator?

Echo calls it responsive and places it near the fast end of its action chart, with mid power that loads deep into the lower sections.

Does it come with a case?

Yes. Every Indicator comes with a hard case and rod sock.

What is the warranty?

The rod is covered by Echo's lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner, when bought from an authorized dealer. If it breaks in normal fishing use, Echo repairs or replaces it for a service fee that varies by model.

Which Indicator should I choose?

The 10' 6 wt for the most reach on trout rivers, the 9'6" 6 wt if you want a slightly handier rod, and the 10' 7 wt for heavy rigs and larger fish.
