Overview

Fulling Mill's New Age Bugger Fly Selection is a 12-fly set built for big trout and bass, with two each of six bugger patterns. The Woolly Bugger is one of the most versatile streamers ever tied, and this set pairs the classic with newer takes on it.

Buggers work because they suggest a little of everything a predator eats: leeches, baitfish, crayfish and big nymphs. The Complex Twist Bugger is Fulling Mill's play on the original, tied with a bigger profile that pushes more water. The rubber-leg buggers add kick on every strip, and the flash versions add sparkle in stained water.

How to Fish It

• Strip and pause: cast toward the bank or structure and strip back at varied speeds, pausing to let the tail breathe.
• Swing it: cast across a run, let the fly swing on a tight line, then add a few strips at the end.
• Dead drift: under an indicator in rivers, a bugger can pass for a leech or large nymph.
• Get down: use a sink-tip or sinking line in deep runs and lakes, and a floating line along shallow banks.
• For bass: work the larger flies around weed edges, docks and wood.

Each set holds two each of Wooly Bugger Black Flash CH #8, Wooly Bugger Purple Flash CH #8, Complex Twist Bugger Brown #2, Complex Twist Bugger Olive #2, CH Rubber Bugger Brown/Orange #6 and CH Rubber Bugger Black #6.

Use the #8 Woolly Buggers on average trout water, the #6 rubber-leg buggers when you want more movement, and the #2 Complex Twist Buggers when you are hunting the biggest fish. Black and purple show up best in low light and stained water, while brown and olive look natural in clear water.
