    Best tippet material out there!

I've never ever had an issue with Trout Hunter whatsoever! I believe it's the best Tippet material out there along with Maxima (which I use for Smallies and Steelhead).

I had high hopes for this tippet. It gets decent reviews and a particular "shootout" rated it above all others. I don't know if I just got a bad batch or the people that wrote the shootout had a financial interest in the outcome, but this stuff isn't great but I think I figured out why.

I usually use RIO Flouroflex. I'm not a rep for anyone and, in fact, I don't like much from RIO except their tippets and leaders just as a point of reference.

This Trout hunter tippet was simply awful for the first several yards. Every other Davy knot I tied snapped (not came undone) in my hand. I lost two complete rigs which has never happened to me before. One of which was on a light take. The tippet wasn't just breaking at the hook eye or even the tippet ring. Several times it broke in the middle of the setup. I switched back to RIO half way through the day and didn't lose another fish or fly.

It's only redeeming qualities at first are low memory and it's easy to pull out line from the spool. The hole in the spool is also oddly large and doesn't fit well on any tippet spool holders that are industry standard.

So why not one star? I think I got a bad batch. I spent an hour or so tying different knots onto different hooks and knots in my garage trying to determine if it was me or the line. Interestingly, the farther I got into the spool, the better it got. It stopped breaking in the middle or at the hook eyes. It worked it way towards the RIO I was using as a control since I know what to expect from it. My only thought it that the outside of the line was exposed to something. Perhaps there was some residue of some chemical on the rubber band or something.

Still, I can't recommend this line because no one should have issues like that out of the packaging. I did also notice that it seems to be ever so slightly more sensitive to the types of knots you choose. Go with the Flouroflex. You'll much, much happier.
