Overview

The Double Fuego is an articulated streamer from Umpqua signature tyer Brandon Mena, and he calls it his favorite articulated streamer to fish. Mena designed it as a smaller alternative to Cheech's Articulated Trout Slider while keeping the Metallic Ice Dub that gives that fly its flash.

It is smaller than most articulated streamers. Large lead eyes give it a jigging motion, and the Bruiser Blend head and marabou collar push a lot of water for its size. That push makes the synthetic rear hook shimmy on every strip, which looks like a fleeing baitfish.

How to Fish It

• Strip and drop: strip it, then pause so the lead eyes make it dive like a jig.
• Bank and structure: fish it past logs, rocks and cut banks where trout ambush prey.
• Line choice: a floating line works in shallow water; use a sink-tip in deeper runs.
• Wade fishing: its smaller size makes it easy to cast on a 5 or 6 weight.

Choosing Color and Size

Copper has warm flash that matches juvenile trout and sculpin tones. Silver matches shiners and other bright baitfish and shows up well on cloudy days. Size 2 x 4 pairs a front hook with a rear hook for a compact streamer around trout-size baitfish.
