Clamps are designed for a myriad of tasks like crushing barbs, removing hooks from fish (or yourself!), opening/closing split shot, knot-tying, cutting tippet, etc. Knowing what tasks you regularly perform stream-side will help you select the clamp(s) that best suit your angling needs. Clamps tend to be a very personal item, and like a favorite rod or reel, people have preferences for their clamps. Some anglers like short clamps and others prefer long. Some like straight jaws while others prefer curved. Many like the gold loops/handles and others prefer the stealth-mode black. So, if you lose your buddy's 5” curved black clamp, don’t assume the 4” gold loop straight model you gave him off your vest will clear the air.

SALT WATER

If you're angling in salt water, consider using the black oxidized or prism finished clamps which provide an extra layer of protection. For clamp longevity in salt water, rinse your clamps in fresh water and apply a little oil.

CLAMP SIZING

Match the clamp to the size of the flies you're using. Generally, the shorter the clamp the smaller and lighter the jaws, and the longer the clamp the larger and heavier the jaws. A 4-inch clamp will struggle crushing a barb on a #4 streamer and a 6-inch clamp will be too large for removing a #22 midge cluster from a fish.

METAL

All clamps are made from 410 Japanese stainless steel with a Rockwell hardness of 42.

Dr. Slick Standard Clamps: All the most popular sizes from 4” to 6”. Designed to handle all your streamside tasks like hook removal, barb crushing, and closing shot.

  • Half Smooth and Half Cross Hatch Jaw Structure
  • Pin-In Shank
  • Straight or Curved
  • Gold Loops or All Black
  • 4", 5", 5.5", or 6" sizes

    Nice clamps but...

Very sturdy clamps but won't be much use on very small flies. The tips are fairly large and blunt. They are very well made though.

    Great!

Replaced my old forceps with these for a trip to Idaho. I thought my old pair worked well until these. They're great!

    Precision high quality product

Forceps/Hemostats are just as important as carrying extra tippet in your bag. I used to carry stainless steel forceps that I picked up at a small tackle shop for $4.00. That lasted me one season and the thing came apart. One evening on my way back to the car after an afternoon on the river I spoke to another angler about certain flies and what he used on his athletes foot problem and I noticed he had purplish-blueish forceps clamped on his vest. I asked him what company makes those and he told me, "Dr. Slick." After examining the prism colored forceps I immediately noticed the nice weight and hardness to the instrument. The quality was outstanding and the angler with the athlete’s foot problem told me he has another one that has a bent tip which he uses for largemouth bass.
Needless to say I bought 6 inch gold straight standard clamps here on AvidMax.com.

Pros: high quality, durable, 410 Japanese steel(like Katana swords), Rockwell hardness of 42, Gold loop or all black, professional looking instrument, envy of all anglers, great affordable price, easy to use.

    Cons: none.
