G Loomis

G. Loomis at AvidMax

G. Loomis has been building fishing rods since 1982, and its fly rods are still handcrafted in Woodland, Washington. Longtime chief designer and world champion caster Steve Rajeff has shaped much of the lineup, and the company's Multi-Taper and Spiral X methods give its rods a crisp, connected feel. AvidMax carries G. Loomis fly rods from compact creek models to heavy saltwater sticks, with staff who can help you pick one.

Why fish a G. Loomis fly rod?

Handcrafted in Woodland, Washington

G. Loomis started making rods in 1982 and has been part of Shimano since 1997. Its fly rods are finished by a crew of longtime builders at the factory in Woodland, Washington, where the company says the hard part is not building one great rod but building hundreds that match. Steve Rajeff, a world champion caster, has led rod design for years. He also created the first single-foot guide in 1994. On the Asquith, Shimano rolls the Spiral X blanks in Kumamoto, Japan, and the rest of the rod is built in Woodland.

Multi-Taper, Spiral X and Conduit Core

G. Loomis puts a lot of work into how a blank is shaped. Multi-Taper Design builds a series of small tapers into the rod, adding material where a blank tends to break and trimming it where it does not, using a rolling table the company built for the job. Spiral X layers carbon in three directions to fight twist and keep the blank round under load. Conduit Core swaps extra graphite in the lower half for a lighter material of equal strength. On NRX+, Dynamic Recovery Technology pairs high-modulus graphite with the GL8 resin for quick recovery and clear feedback.
