Overview

The Jungle Love from Umpqua is a large 2/0 streamer from Umpqua's jungle fly lineup, built for peacock bass and also fished for pike, musky and big bass. It is a trigger pattern, not an exact imitation, made to give aggressive fish a reason to chase.

Marabou and a barred feather tail breathe and pulse on every strip, while flash catches light and helps fish find the fly in stained water. The large profile pushes water that predators can feel with their lateral line before they see it. That combination of size, motion and contrast is what draws aggressive strikes from fish that eat other fish.

How to Fish It

  • Strip and pause: use long, steady strips with pauses so the marabou collapses and flares. Many strikes come on the pause.
  • Leader: use a heavy leader with a bite tippet of wire or heavy fluorocarbon when fishing for pike and musky.
  • Rod and line: an 8- to 10-weight rod with a floating line for shallow weed edges, or a sink-tip for deeper drop-offs.
  • Where to fish it: rocky points, drowned timber and lagoon edges for peacock bass; weed lines, points and shallow bays for pike and bass.

Choosing Color and Size

Black Chartreuse is a high-contrast choice for stained water, cloudy days and low light. Purple gives a dark, visible silhouette in clear water and is a classic predator color. Both come in size 2/0.
