Overview

The Echo Stillwater is Echo's competition-level lake rod. Echo's view is that a conventional trout rod is a poor substitute for one developed for stillwater, so it worked with expert Pete Erickson to tune a medium fast action with the subtle delicacy to cover every part of serious lake fishing, on lakes of any size.

The series is built around 10' rods in 5, 6 and 7 wt, plus a 10'6" 6 wt for extra reach. Each has a full wells cork grip, a black reel seat and a removable cork fighting butt, and every model is 4-piece with a rod sock and case. We carry all four models.

Which Stillwater Should You Choose?

Trout lakes with lighter lines, dries and small flies: ECHOSTW5100 (10' 5 wt).

One rod for most lake fishing, floating to sinking lines: ECHOSTW6100 (10' 6 wt).

Extra reach for long leaders and fishing from a boat: ECHOSTW6106 (10'6" 6 wt).

Bigger fish, bigger flies and heavy sinking lines: ECHOSTW7100 (10' 7 wt).

Echo Stillwater Models

ECHOSTW5100 - 10' 5 wt

The lightest Stillwater, delicate enough for dries and small flies while keeping the power that sets the series apart in wind.

Best for: trout lakes, dries, small flies, lighter lines.

Line pairing: A 5 wt floating stillwater line first, with an intermediate or a density-compensated sinking line for deeper fish. We recommend the SA Stillwater Float (WF5F) or the RIO Elite Stillwater Floater (WF5F).

ECHOSTW6100 - 10' 6 wt

The center of the series, with the range to fish a floating line and indicator one hour and a sinking line the next.

Best for: all-round lake fishing, floating to sinking lines.

Line pairing: A 6 wt floating stillwater line, plus an intermediate or density-compensated sinking line. We recommend the SA Stillwater Float (WF6F) or the RIO Elite Stillwater Floater (WF6F).

ECHOSTW6106 - 10'6" 6 wt

The longest Stillwater. The extra six inches help with long leaders and give more control when you fish from a boat.

Best for: long leaders, boat fishing, extra reach.

Line pairing: A 6 wt floating stillwater line, plus an intermediate or density-compensated sinking line. We recommend the SA Stillwater Float (WF6F) or the RIO Elite Stillwater Floater (WF6F).

ECHOSTW7100 - 10' 7 wt

The most powerful Stillwater, for bigger fish, bigger flies and the heaviest sinking lines.

Best for: bigger fish, big flies, heavy sinking lines, wind.

Line pairing: A 7 wt floating stillwater line, plus an intermediate or density-compensated sinking line. We recommend the SA Stillwater Float (WF7F) or the RIO Elite Stillwater Floater (WF7F).

Stillwater vs Lago

Echo's other lake rod, the Echo Lago, is the workhorse option: Echo plots it slower and less powerful than the Stillwater, and reviewers who fished both 10' 5 wts found the Lago's deeper flex gives more feel with dries. The Stillwater has more power and quicker recovery, which reviewers found better in wind, from the bank and with heavy sinking lines and big flies. For indicator nymphing on rivers, see the Echo Indicator.

Echo Stillwater FAQ

What action is the Stillwater?

Medium fast, in Echo's words, with the delicacy to fish dries and the power to handle sinking lines.

Why a stillwater-specific rod?

Lake fishing asks for long casts, long leaders and lines from floating to fast sinking, often from a boat or float tube. Echo designed the Stillwater with Pete Erickson for exactly that.

Is the fighting butt removable?

Yes. The cork fighting butt comes off when you do not need it.

Does it come with a case?

Yes. Each Stillwater comes with a rod sock and case.

What is the warranty?

The rod is covered by Echo's lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner, when bought from an authorized dealer. If it breaks in normal fishing use, Echo repairs or replaces it for a service fee that varies by model.

How is it different from the Echo Lago?

The Stillwater is faster and more powerful, for wind, long casts and heavy sinking lines. The Lago is softer, has more feel for dries and costs less.
