Overview

The Orvis Recon Saltwater Fly Rod brings Helios-derived construction to the flats, the beach and the blue water. Built to handle wind, distance and hard-running fish, it carries the increased hoop strength, tighter tracking and improved damping that put a saltwater cast where you aimed it, even when the wind refuses to cooperate.

Six models run from 6-weight through 11-weight, all on a 9-foot four-piece blank finished in matte blue with light blue accents. That range covers bonefish, redfish and permit at the lighter end and tarpon, giant trevally and big stripers at the heavier one, so one family carries a saltwater angler from a wading flat to a running tide.

A full-wells grip, fighting butt and anodized reel seat handle salt, sand and sustained pressure, and the four-piece blank breaks down into a travel tube without giving up the recovery speed that makes the distance.
