Description
Overview
The Scott Wave is a fast-action, all-water fly rod handcrafted in Montrose, Colorado, built for the fish that pull hardest: bonefish, redfish and permit on the flats, stripers and roosterfish in the surf, and pike, musky, bass and carp in fresh water. It brings many of Scott's recent materials and design ideas into one series at a price well below Scott's premium saltwater rods.
Wave rods feel light in hand for their line weight, but they generate high line speed and tight loops and have real lifting power once a fish is on, which helps keep it out of structure or up from the depths. All seven models are 9' 4-piece rods, from a 6 wt for bass and carp up to a 12 wt for tarpon and offshore species.
Which Wave Should You Choose?
Bass, carp and big trout streamers: W9064 (9' 6 wt) or W9074 (9' 7 wt).
Bonefish, redfish and one rod for most flats trips: W9084 (9' 8 wt), the do-it-all model of the series.
Permit, pike and big flies in the wind: W9094 (9' 9 wt).
Stripers, mahi, roosterfish and musky: W90104 (9' 10 wt).
Tarpon and the biggest fish: W90114 (9' 11 wt) or W90124 (9' 12 wt).

Scott Wave Models
W9064 - 9' 6 wt
The lightest and quickest Wave, built for fish that eat big flies in fresh water: largemouth and smallmouth bass, carp, and trout on streamers. It has the backbone to turn over heavy flies and the light swing weight to cast them all day.
Best for: bass, carp, streamer fishing for trout.
Line pairing: Recommended line weight 160-180 grains. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity Warm (WF6F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Grand Slam (WF6F).
W9074 - 9' 7 wt
A favorite when conditions allow a lighter rod. The 7 wt delivers tight loops and high line speed for quiet presentations to tailing bonefish and redfish, and it doubles as an excellent smallmouth rod.
Best for: tailing bonefish and redfish on calm days, smallmouth bass.
Line pairing: Recommended line weight 185-205 grains. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Grand Slam (WF7F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Bonefish (WF7F).
W9084 - 9' 8 wt
The workhorse of the series and the Wave to start with. It casts a wide range of fly sizes well and covers most saltwater and freshwater jobs, from bonefish and redfish to stripers, bass and carp. It is fast with quick recovery, yet accurate at short range and light in hand for an 8 weight.
Best for: bonefish, redfish, stripers, bass and carp; one rod for most flats trips.
Line pairing: Recommended line weight 210-230 grains. We recommend the SA Amplitude Textured Bonefish (WF8F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Grand Slam (WF8F).
W9094 - 9' 9 wt
From permit to pike, the 9 wt handles big flies, big fish and big wind. It is the step up when an 8 weight runs out of power on breezy flats or when the flies get heavy.
Best for: permit, pike, windy flats, large flies.
Line pairing: Recommended line weight 240-275 grains. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Grand Slam (WF9F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Infinity Salt (WF9F).
W90104 - 9' 10 wt
Built for species that overpower lighter rods: stripers, mahi, roosterfish and musky. It throws large, wind-resistant flies and sinking lines and has the lifting power to move strong fish.
Best for: stripers, mahi, roosterfish, musky, sinking lines.
Line pairing: Recommended line weight 275-325 grains. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Grand Slam (WF10F) or the SA Sonar Titan Full Intermediate (WF10I).
W90114 - 9' 11 wt
A big-game rod for tarpon and musky, designed to test the limits of fly tackle while staying manageable over a long day of casting.
Best for: tarpon, musky, large saltwater species.
Line pairing: Recommended line weight 330-360 grains. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Tarpon (WF11F) or the SA Amplitude Smooth Grand Slam (WF11F).
W90124 - 9' 12 wt
The heaviest Wave, for large tarpon, tuna, GTs and other fish that demand maximum power, and still surprisingly easy to cast for its size.
Best for: large tarpon, tuna, giant trevally, offshore species.
Line pairing: Recommended line weight 375-450 grains. We recommend the SA Amplitude Smooth Tarpon (WF12F) or the SA Amplitude Textured Tropical Titan (WF12F).
Wave vs Sector vs Session
Scott's two saltwater-capable series are the Wave and the Sector, and anglers often compare them with the trout-focused Session.
Wave gives you most of Scott's saltwater performance at a lower price, with a 6 to 12 weight range that covers bass and carp as well as the flats and offshore.
Scott Sector is Scott's premium saltwater series. In side-by-side casting it is more responsive and a little more accurate at middle distances, with more feel, and it costs more. Choose the Sector if you fish the salt often and want Scott's best; choose the Wave for the most rod for the money.
Scott Session is the same price as the Wave but built for trout and lighter freshwater, from 3 to 8 weight. Choose the Session for trout; choose the Wave for saltwater, bass, pike and carp.
