The Pilot Kit from Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) is a complete fly fishing outfit for anglers who want a simple, reliable start without sorting through rods, reels and lines on their own. It pairs a 9' 4-piece Pilot fly rod with a cast aluminum Pilot reel that comes already rigged with backing, a weight-forward floating line and a tapered leader, so it is ready to fish out of the box. TFO introduced the Pilot in 2025, alongside the Dispatch Kit.

The rod has a moderate action that loads easily and feels smooth and forgiving, which helps new casters build good habits and throw consistent loops while their timing is still coming together. The handle is reconstituted cork, which wears well and stays tacky when wet. It also makes an easy, no-fuss spare or travel setup for experienced anglers. TFO launched two kits together. The Pilot is the simple introduction: a moderate-action rod in 5 and 8 wt with everything matched and rigged.
